Manggarai Water Gate Project Progress Already 80 Percent

The adding project of Manggarai Water Gate, South Jakarta, from two into three sluice door has now almost completed. The addition of Manggarai Water Gate is believed to increase the capacity of water that goes into 507 cubic meter/second. This capacity is more adequate than before which can only accommodate 330 cubic meter/second Katulampa water from the dam in Bogor through Ciliwung River.

If Manggarai and Karet Water Gate has operated, the debit of Ciliwung River water will flow from Katulampa Reservoir will higher and flows quickly to West Flood Canal until Jakarta Sea. It can also accelerate the decline of puddles in the township which is on the banks Ciliwung River, especially Kampung Pulo

Head of Manggarai Water Gate Project, Pardjito, revealed that the adding construction progress of Manggarai Water Gate has reached 80 percent and is expected to be completed in September 2014.

"The installation of box culvert in 26.00 m x 9.85 m x 7.40 m diameter culvert has been completed. Currently we are implementing the installation of iron for casting lines into the culverts of old sluice," he said on Friday (6/27).

Citizens Asked to Support Ciliwung River Normalization

According to him, the exact location of the culvert is located exactly on the railway track connecting Bogor, Bekasi, and Kota, so the implementation of the construction of Manggarai Water Gate addition needs to be done with precise calculation.

"If it is worked without extra concentration, the train lines can collapse and disrupt public services. For that, we always coordinate with PT KAI in every underground activity. But now, the installation of box culvert has completed. The installation of box culvert spent more time because of right under the railway track," Pardjito added.

Furthermore, Pardjito stated, in addition to Manggarai Water Gate, Karet Water Gate also has the adding into 5 gates from 4 gates. "The adding of water gate is also carried out to accommodate the flow of water coming out at Manggarai Water Gate, so there is synergy and to avoid buildup of water that will flow through the Karet Water Gate that is next flowed to Jakarta Sea," he explained.

Meanwhile, Jalan Tambak, which is closed simultaneously with Manggarai Water Gate construction, will be re-opened upon the completion of the project. "The road will be re-opened to the public when the work is completed. Currently, there are still construction and drilling in that road," added Pardjito.

Manggarai Water Gate officer, Dian Nur Cahyono, added that with the operation of Manggarai Water Gate, it is believed to reduce the flood that always hit Jakarta.
